Abstract

This chapter introduces user-centred design (UCD) in the context of Digital Health solutions for Primary Care, emphasising the importance of placing users at the core of the design process. This chapter starts by providing an overview of the definitions and principles of UCD and the essential steps for developing user-centred Digital Health tools. We specifically approach the user experience (UX) in Digital Health tools for Primary Care, how the patient-centredness of digital tools can be evaluated, and the potential impact of Digital Health in leading to better health outcomes and more efficient resource use. In the end, we discuss the current challenges and limitations of Digital Health for patient-centred care. Overall, this chapter underscores the transformative potential of user-centred and digitally enabled health solutions in Primary Care while critically assessing current limitations and barriers to effective implementation.
