Abstract
This article focuses on criminal prohibitions and copyright issues associated with the reproduction of images of money in advertising material. Australia’s laws regarding the use of coins and banknotes (referred to here as money) remain largely untested and are far more relaxed when compared with other jurisdictions. In the United Kingdom, for example, it is an offence to reproduce any part of a banknote without first obtaining authorisation from the Bank of England.1 Despite this, a consideration of Australia’s provisions on this subject brings a myriad of legal issues to light.
