Abstract
Countries affected by the energy crisis are trying to overcome their dependence on fossil fuels by de-fossilizing their energy systems. The eco-intelligent integration of methanol production with renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaics is inextricably linked to sustainable manufacturing and a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous future. Biofuels like methanol struggle to generate renewable revenues from waste that would otherwise be discarded in nature. Replacing fossil electricity in your facility's operations can reduce costs and environmental footprint. Therefore, the main objective of this chapter is to bring a new look to the production of biofuels, mainly second-generation methanol, using photovoltaic energy in unit operations. A historical perspective from fossil fuels to biofuels is provided. Finally, the technical, economic, and environmental premises of methanol production with photovoltaic energy are addressed.
