Abstract

The emergence of Generative AI (Gen AI) presents a perfect storm for higher education. Not only must educators deal with the impact of GenAI on academic work carried out by both learners and educators, but they must revise curriculum to ensure that graduates are prepared for a world where GenAI is widely used. GenAI represents a quantum leap in the ability to mimic, some would say to fake human “thinking work” (for example, Walsh 2023). This latest generation demonstrates wide ranging expertise and capabilities developed from data sets that are significantly larger than those used in the past.
