    Abstract

This chapter commences by looking at how values can be acquired and internalised in such a way that they can be used continually and without thinking consciously about them. This is an important point since many values education programmes adopt the more common approach of providing a list of principles, pillars, values, or virtues, which are memorised, or around which themed activities are planned. Rather, it is the internalisation of a language of values that Education in Human Values (EHV) sees as important, and that is explored here. The chapter also suggests how parents and teachers can facilitate this process of acquiring and internalising values.
