Abstract
With the adoption of the Dolby Atmos surround format for use in pure musical production purposes, as an expansion from its primary application in cinema, there has been a new wave of experimentation in recorded music spatialisation. The key factors driving the experimentation include the positioning of the audience perspective in relation to the construction of the sound stage and further to this, the dynamic relationship to the listener that can be achieved in Dolby Atmos playback environments. So too are he genre aesthetics and tropes associated with musical production and the how these may be adopted, disrupted or expanded through the spatial possibilities of Dolb Atmos.
Acidulous Broth is inspired by the 40th anniversary of the renown Roland TB303 bassline synthesiser to investigate how the genre of 'Acid techno', which has rigid production aesthetic built in the stereo sonic landscape, can be adapted and/or augmented in the Dolby Atmos space.
