    Abstract

    ![CDATA[Increased parental and community participation in school decision making processes has been advocated by a number of discourses in western democracies. A critical consideration of these discourses illuminates equity and social justice concerns relating to this form of involvement of the school community in school management. In discussing these issues, the need for further research to inform policy and practices in schools is identified and a more thorough consideration and prioritisation of issues of equity and social justice in the implementation of these policies is advocated.]]
