Abstract

What Is The City But The People was commissioned by The Sydney Opera House in order to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Raised above the forecourt, 150 citizens of the city walked a 60 metre catwalk backed by live music, large scale projections and text, creating a unique portrait of the people and the place of Sydney. Felicity Castagna is the writer of this work. Her work as a writer involved interviewing over 100 people and turning their stories into written short written works which spoke to their contribution to the city. She then created them into a script which was shown on video screens as the interviewees walked the cat walk.
