Where do we go from here? : action planning for writing and publishing

    Abstract

This chapter is deliberately entitled 'where do we go from here?' as opposed to 'where do you go from here?' This is to convey that, regardless of our experience and success as writers, each time we sit down to write we are, essentially, starting from the beginning with a particular publication. We all have the same pressures of time and commitments, which militate against good quality writing time and productivity in terms of what we want to write about or, for many of us, have to write about. Regardless of the importance we place on writing for publication, it always seems to come last in our list of priorities. If this is the situation then what can we all do to continue developing as writers and, most importantly, see our efforts in print? As readers of this book you may have already used some of the advice and guidance given to you by a team of very experienced authors and attained that goal of having an article published. Others may have used the chapter content to help them teach others how to keep developing their skills further and attain a goal such as publication in an international journal that has an impact factor. How then can we ensure that more of your reading this book, who have been undertaking some of the activities and gained additional knowledge, now be successful in writing for publication?
