Abstract

We are living in a time of profound societal and ecological transformation, during which some of our activities threaten all life forms. This sentiment is clearly reflected in the 17 interconnected United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by 193 Governments in 2015 (United Nations 2015). They include action items such as food security, sustainable agriculture, clean water, climate action, biodiversity conservation, and resilient communities.
