Abstract

![CDATA[This paper investigates the capability of wireless power transmission (WPT) in a concrete medium using Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antennas (CDRAs). Two dualband (2.4 GHz and 5.7 GHz) CDRAs were modelled; one CDRA was embedded in concrete and another CDRA was placed externally outside the concrete medium. The recorded magnitude of transmission coefficient from the external to the embedded CDRA is of relatively high value and demonstrates the capability of the CDRAs to be used for WPT in concrete. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis on the effect of variations of the relative dielectric constant and loss tangent tan δ of concrete on the magnitude of the reflection coefficient, S22, and frequency of the embedded CDRA was performed. This analysis showed that a reliable WPT could be achieved with cylindrical dielectric resonator antennas at 2.4 GHz and 5.7 GHz.]]
