Abstract

Highlights: The review demonstrates the high level of non-evidence based interventions used during labour and birth in Middle Eastern countries. The review provides evidence of disrespect for women and the high level of verbal and physical abuse that occurs during labour and birth in many Middle Eastern countries. These findings should provide a strong basis to argue for change in birthing practices in Middle Eastern countries, commencing with permission for women to have a support person in labour.
