Abstract
‘Yandel'mawa Dance Video’ is based on the traditional D’harawal story of the Seven Peacekeepers (seven broad types of Eucalyptus and their human counterparts) and the Peacemaker (the Angophora). The story has many layers of Lore/Law including the importance of ecological diversity in the forests of Western Sydney. The key events in the Story centre around the Yandel’ora (The Land of Peace Between Peoples), i.e. Mt Annan and the broader Camden floodplains. Performed on the Georges River, the song and dance were devised by Muruwari Songman Matthew Doyle, and co-choreographed by Peta Strachan (Dharug).
