    Abstract

Overcrowding results in Indigenous Australians utilising the yard areas surrounding the house as living environments. These areas are typically barren and lack facilities. Data from the National Indigenous Housing Guide shows less than half the housing has any outdoor cooking facilities and 16 per cent of houses have no verandahs. In response to these findings the Yardmaster utility unit was developed to introduce power, water, shelter, lighting, work benches, washing facilities and storage to outdoor living spaces.
