Yohji Yamamoto: On structure and fluidity (Bloomsbury Fashion Video Archive)

Research output: Other contribution › peer-review

Abstract

Yohji Yamamoto is considered one of the world's master garment designers. He is revered for his uniquely philosophic and conceptual approach to dressmaking which continues to shift the boundaries of fashion, a process set forth by his '˜ready to wear' collections in the early 1980s. It is Yohji's capacity to dwell deeply upon the complexities of the world and the human condition which manifest in his garments and the performance of his shows. Film maker Wim Wenders in the film ‘Note Book on Cities and Clothe' (2003) has noted that his work is remarkably attuned to the here and now yet inspired by the dignity of another time.
