A sequential exploratory mixed methods typology was employed to develop and test an internalised weightism intervention. Phase one delivered a taxonomy of the cognitions and emotions operationalising internalised weightism. Phase two integrated the taxonomy with Emotional Freedom Techniques to develop an eight weekly session manualised intervention program. Phase three preliminarily assessed the program through community consultation with 12 obese women from Australia. Post-treatment results reported significant reductions in internalised weightism, stress, depression, anxiety, shame and significant enhancements in self-esteem, self-compassion and eating/weight management self-efficacy. All gains were maintained by 12-months follow-up, with the additional outcome of untargeted significant weight-loss.
